2024 African Nations Championship: A Historic Tournament for Local Talent

The 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), officially named the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship for sponsorship purposes, is set to be a landmark event in African football. Scheduled from 1 to 28 February 2025, this 8th edition of the biennial tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will be the first ever hosted by three nations: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

This tournament exclusively features national teams composed of players currently active in their respective local leagues, showcasing the continent’s rising football talent.


Host Selection

On 17 December 2023, CAF announced Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda as co-hosts of the 2024 edition. This decision is a precursor to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which the three countries are also slated to host.

The matches will take place across five venues in the three host nations:

These venues were chosen to reflect the football passion and infrastructure readiness of the three co-hosts.


Qualification

The qualification process, unveiled on 9 September 2024, ran from 25 October to 29 December 2024. Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia automatically qualified, though Libya later withdrew due to scheduling conflicts.
